Tow Skim-Boarding
Tow Skim or Tow Skimboarding as I like to call it, is the latest kid in town and it's the most fun stuff for kids on the beach. Beach holidays or visits to the beach will never be boring when you have the Tow Skim! Every kid wants one! A Tow Skim lets a child experience the same sensation and physical benefit of that of wake boarding, water-skiing and cable-skiing without the high expenses to rent a boat, minimum age requirement, the big splashes on their faces and most importantly, the excessive pull from the boat/cable which are too great for their little bodies.
How to Tow Skimboard:
1) Child first learn how to hold the Tow Handle and either sit or kneel on the skimboard. Younger kids use the 1st knot and older kids who are taller can go with the 2nd or 3rd knot on the cable.
2) Choose a flat beach with just an inch of water and ensure no debris or dangerous rubbish along the route your skimboard will run past. Your child might fall off and if there's dangerous objects on the beach, he/she might hurt himself/herself.
3) Parent starts running slow and figure out the best running pace according to your child's comfort. Let your child feel the skimming or riding over the water. Some children might feel afraid as they have never tried board sports before. They, however, will warm up to skimming over the water and learn to balance themselves over uneven surfaces in increasing speed.
4) When the child is able to coordinate their bodies with the board and speed, encourage them to stand up slowly. Standing up on the Tow Skim is exactly the same stance as Water-Skiing. They use lots of their arms to manage the pull, quads to control and stabilise the board, back and glutes to ensure an upright stance (not too forward and definitely not leaning back).
5) Create tricks to do on the Tow Skim. See www.towskim.com for many videos of advances tricks to perform on the Tow Skimboard. 180 switch, jumps, handle pass or even taking out the carabiner and riding the Skimboard like a Skimboard while holding on to the loose Tow Handle! The sky's the limit!
